Bestemor Senior Solutions
Western Washington & Spokane
Julie Hvitfeldtsen’s career has always centered on helping people feel at home. As Founder and President of Bestemor Senior Solutions, she brings decades of experience in residential property management, senior living, and family guidance to helping older adults find housing and care that fit their needs, preferences, and financial circumstances.
Julie began her career in residential property management in 1990 as an Assistant Manager. That foundation gave her firsthand experience with the practical and personal considerations that shape housing decisions. Over time, her work developed into a deeper calling: supporting older adults and the families who care about them.
In 2001, Julie brought together her Sunday school families and Girl Scout families to establish The Grand-Connection, a nonprofit organization connecting children with seniors experiencing loneliness in assisted living communities. Through visits and shared activities, the children brought joy and companionship to residents while building meaningful relationships across generations. This experience strengthened Julie’s belief that belonging and human connection are essential parts of aging well.
In 2006, Julie transitioned from property management into senior housing, serving as Director of Sales and Marketing in assisted living communities. Working directly with residents and their families gave her a close understanding of the questions, emotions, and challenges involved in choosing additional support. Her experience helping her own mother further deepened her appreciation for how personal these decisions can be.
During the pandemic in 2020, Julie began working remotely and transitioned into her role as a Senior Housing Advisor. This allowed her to draw on her community experience while helping families explore a broader range of housing and care options.
Today, through Bestemor Senior Solutions, Julie and her multilingual advisory team provide complimentary, personalized guidance to families throughout Western Washington. Their work includes independent living, assisted living, memory care, adult family homes, and in-home care. From understanding care needs and budgets to narrowing options, coordinating tours, and supporting transitions, Julie helps families move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
Bestemor’s service is complimentary to the families it serves. Similar to a travel agent, Bestemor helps clients explore options and find the right fit. If a client chooses to move to a community Bestemor recommends, that community pays Bestemor a referral fee—at no cost to the family.
Her approach extends beyond finding a community. She connects families with resources for downsizing, moving, financial and elder law planning, and other needs that can arise during a transition. She encourages families to begin exploring their options early, giving seniors more opportunity to participate in decisions about their future.
Julie’s commitment to education and community connection also continues through her service on the Providence Point Foundation board, where she supports opportunities for residents to learn about aging well and living independently.
“Bestemor” means “Grandma” in Norwegian—a name that reflects the personal care at the heart of Julie’s work. Her philosophy is straightforward: listen carefully, respect each person’s choices, and offer the guidance she would want for her own family.
